The Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame held it’s Second Induction Ceremony/Dinner August 9 with nearly 700 fans, celebrities, and VIP’s on hand to honor boxing’s greats. 18 Inductees were ushered into the NVBHOF, joining the 19 from last year, their names now preserved forever with Hall of Fame status in Nevada. Several others who have contributed significantly to the sport in Nevada were also honored with Special Achievement Awards. The evening’s emcees were acclaimed actress Rosie Perez and famed sportscaster Barry Tompkins.

The dinner took place at The New Tropicana, Las Vegas with a theme of “Rivals United”. Competing promotional companies and organizations, along with rival fighters past and present, gathered together in the spirit of celebrating boxing. Nowhere was it more apparent than the inductions of Evander Holyfield and Roberto Duran. The legendary icons were on stage with their most heated rivals, Holyfield presented with his induction speech by Mike Tyson, and Duran presented his NVBHOF Trophy by Sugar Ray Leonard. More than 100 media members from 5 countries were there to chronicle the event.

Joining Holyfield and Duran as boxer inductees were Cornelius Boza-Edwards, who was presented by World Champion Floyd Mayweather, and George Foreman, who was represented by his two sons George Foreman Jr. and George Foreman IV. Deceased boxer inductees included Joe Louis, Jack Dempsey, Archie Moore and Sonny Liston, who were all represented by family members who traveled to Las Vegas to accept on their behalf. Non-boxer inductees included trainer Miguel Diaz, referees Richard Steele and Kenny Bayless, media members Kevin Iole and Col Bob Sheridan, matchmaker Bruce Trampler, former commissioners Chuck Minker and Luther Mack, and hotel executives Clifford Perlman and Steve Wynn.

The NVBHOF also brought to the stage several individual honorees. Floyd Mayweather was named Nevada Fighter of the Year for his outstanding performances againt Canelo Alvarez and Marcos Maidana. 81 year old Joe Bliss, University of Nevada’s first-ever boxing National Champion in 1959 received the President’s Award. Special Achievement Awards were presented to WBC Heavyweight Champ Bermane Stiverne, College champs Vinh Thai of UNLV and Garrett Felling of Nevada, Women’s Champion Ana Julaton, boxing photo-journalist Mary Ann Owen, Lou Ruvo Center Medical Researcher Dr Charles Bernick who is conducting a medical study on brain trauma with boxers.

NVBHOF President Rich Marotta welcomed the fans and thanked sponsors WBC, ONE FC, and Real Water. Rich also singled out the WBC for preparing the videos that were seen prior to each inductee, and gave special thanks to Mayweather Promotions for having significantly supported each and every NVBHOF event. Rich then introduced NVBHOF Executive Vice-President Michelle Corrales-Lewis who announced the evening’s donations from the NVBHOF: UNLV and University of Nevada boxing programs, Arce Gym in Sparks, Richard Steele Foundation, and a special donation to Carolyn Flores of Reno, who boxer-fiance was tragically cut down by a stray bullet as he was putting their one-year old son to bed last month.

American Association for the Improvement of Boxing (AAIB), which is a 45 year-old organization. Our Annual Celebrity Golf Outing is on Columbus Day, October 13, 2014 at Galloway National Golf Club, a tremendous course just outside of Atlantic City. This event is how we at the AAIB fund our college scholarships for amateur boxers. Unlike other athletes in sports that have scholarship options at hundreds of colleges and universities, boxers have very limited options, and more often than not, are unable to pursue higher education.  We try to fill that void, to offer boxers better opportunities to educate themselves.

Our event is a very enjoyable, memorable experience. We have celebrity guests from boxing, baseball, football, basketball and hockey, as well as broadcasting. Not only does our Golf Outing give you a great day on a Top 75 golf course, but the price includes lunch and dinner at Galloway, an overnight stay at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino, and a cocktail party at the Tropicana the night before the outing.

Finally, the cost of the golf outing is tax deductible, because the AAIB is a 501c-3 organization. Your donation is for a worthy cause. If you don't golf, please consider attending the dinner, or otherwise supporting the AAIB with a tee sign advertisement or other donation. Attached to this email is the brochure, which does not have our most updated guest list. Our website, www.aaib.org will be updated periodically with celebrity guests as they are confirmed and added. In the past couple of years, our guests included Herschel Walker, O.J. Anderson, Gus Williams, Rick Cerone, Stephen Baker, Jim Burt, Buddy McGirt, Gerry Cooney, Riddick Bowe, Gianni Russo, Ken Daneyko, Ray Mercer, Bobby Czyz, Stephen Baker, Lou Duva, Rich Caster, Iran Barkley, and others.

From HAROLD BELL'S LEGENDS: THE ORIGINAL INSIDE SPORTS
TheOriginalInsideSports.com

I Remember it was 40 years ago in October 1974 when Muhammad Ai Roped A Dope in Zaire Africa:
Picture
JOE FRAZIER----GEORGE FOREMAN----THE GREATEST
Ali shocked the sports world on October 30, 1974 when he knocked out George Foreman in the 8th round in a fight known as The Rumble in the Jungle.

The Dope he roped was none other then the Heavyweight Champion of the world. Big George would later admit "Ali outhought me and he outfought me."

Ali and I met in Chicago prior to the big fight.  He invited me to go as his guest.  I turned down his invitation I was not too thrilled about flying across all that water.  A decision I now regret.

But he promised me on his return back to the United States I would be the first media personality to interview him in New York City.  I never will forget how confident he was that he would return victorious.

ALI, PAT PATTERSON AND H. BELL
Sitting on the mountain top it does not get any better
The champ was a man of his word.  He called me after his arrival back home and gave me the green light to head on up to the Big Apple.  The interview was held in his hotel room overlooking Central Park.

My producer Rodney Brown and cameraman Wil Williams would accompany me on this historical journey.  On our arrival in the hotel lobby I called the room number he had given me.  He answered the phone and said, "Come on up!"  He opened the door while combing his hair and said "What I tell you boy, I am the Greatest."  We all started laughing--he was right again.

In the best interview I have ever seen Ali give.  He talks about controversy, friendship, truth, the innocent of a little child, the difference between a boxer and a fighter, The White House and self-sufficency.  He closes the show talking about his commitment to the Nation of Islam.

The interview is captured in the video titled, "The Legends of Inside Sports."  Its one of a kind.  This is the Greatest being the Greatest as he talks about The Game Called Life.  Forty years later the topics are still revelant.

The interview is one of a kind there is nothing like it in the market place.  In 2007 a group brought the rights to Ali's name and likeness for 50 million dollars and 20% of the monies generated from advertising.  It was a great deal for the champ because of his age and failing health.

The Champ & The Dope
My interview is distinguished by his left black eye and it was not for sale.  The champ never allows anyone to interview him with marks on his pretty face.  If you ever see any parts of my interview with Ali and he has a black eye--you will know it is my interview with the champ in November of 1974.  The interview made its debut on NBC affiliate WRC-TV 4 in Washington, DC in November 1975.  It has not been seen since.  I have the copy rights to the entire interview. Stay tune.
