Don Chaney, a star on the 1968 University of Houston basketball team, talks with veteran sports broadcaster Lenny Moon about his team's epic battle against UCLA in 1968. The two teams were #1 (UCLA) and #2 (Houston) in the country and were led by the college game's premeir titans in the Bruins Lew Alcondor (aka Kareem Jabbar) and the Cougars Elvin Hayes. The contest was played before the largest crowd to witness a basketball game in America at that time with well over 50,000 in attendance. UCLA was riding the crest of a 47-game winning streak that ended that night of January 20, 1968 in the game entitled "Game of the Century". The Cougars remined undefeated that season until they met the Bruins a second time in the NCAA Tournament, Houston would win the Dome contest by the score of 71-69 with Hayes leading the way with a game-high 44 points. This paved the way for the modern "March Madness" television coverage. Check out more videos and information on the Lenny Moon YouTube Channel. ![]() Leon Hughes and The Coasters.
